Commercial vehicles require fast aftertreatment heat-up to move the SCR catalyst into most efficient temperature range meet upcoming NO X regulations while minimizing CO 2 . One solution this challenge is add a fuel burner upstream of con`ventional heavy-duty diesel system. The focus paper optimize based thermal management approach. objective included complying with CARB’s 2027 low emissions standards for on-road heavy duty engines. This was accomplished by pairing system cylinder de-activation on engine and/or light-off sub-system. A demonstrated using an aged targeted emission levels various controls. baseline layer controls includes deactivation raise exhaust more than 100°C in combination elevated idle speed increase mass flowrate through operating burner, and (during cold start) allows heat up small fraction time today’s systems. Performance quantified over FTP, hot load cycle (LLC) U.S. beverage cycle. improvement reduction savings these cycles are highlighted.
